Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Liveweave handles, why we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.

Plain-language summary: Liveweave uses the information needed to operate accounts, save and display projects, protect the service, understand product usage, and provide the optional AI Assistant. We do not sell personal information for money.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to Liveweave.com and Liveweave features that link to it, including the Web Playground, Python Playground, project showcase, user dashboard, and AI Assistant (collectively, the “Service”).

Liveweave lets people create, run, save, share, and explore code in a browser. This policy applies to information handled by Liveweave as the operator of the Service. It does not govern third-party websites, libraries, APIs, or other services that a user chooses to load or call from a project.

2. Information we handle

Information you provide

  • Account information: username, email address, and a securely hashed password. Liveweave does not store the plaintext password used to create or access an account.
  • Optional profile information: name and location, if you choose to provide them.
  • Project content: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python code, project titles, editor preferences, and public/private settings that you save.
  • Communications: your name, email address, selected topic, subject, message, and related technical information when you use the contact form; information included when you email support, request account deletion, or use password-reset and account-verification features.
  • AI content: prompts, recent AI conversation context, and relevant editor content submitted when you use the AI Assistant.

Information collected through use of the Service

  • Technical and usage information: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring pages, requested pages, timestamps, feature activity, errors, and similar server-log information.
  • Project activity: project identifiers, save and update times, project ownership, privacy selection, and view counts.
  • AI usage information: request and token counts, login status, and identifiers derived from a username or IP address for quotas, abuse prevention, and rate limiting.
  • Analytics information: measurements about visits and interactions collected through Google Analytics and similar technologies that we may use.

Liveweave does not intentionally request precise GPS location, government identification numbers, payment-card information, health information, or other sensitive personal information through its standard features. Please do not place sensitive or confidential information in projects, prompts, profile fields, or support messages.

3. How we use information

We use information as reasonably necessary to:

  • create and authenticate accounts and maintain user sessions;
  • save, retrieve, display, update, fork, share, and delete projects;
  • honor public/private project settings and manage project ownership;
  • provide password resets, account verification, support, and service messages;
  • operate the AI Assistant and enforce daily usage limits;
  • secure, debug, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • measure usage and understand how features perform;
  • prevent fraud, misuse, unauthorized access, and violations of applicable terms or law; and
  • comply with legal obligations and protect users, Liveweave, and others.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely as appropriate on performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, consent, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Projects, sharing, and visibility

Public projects. A project marked public, or saved without private access enabled, may be accessible to anyone with its URL and may appear in public areas such as the showcase. Public project content, title, identifier, view count, and associated username may be visible to others. Do not include personal, confidential, proprietary, or secret information in a public project.

Private projects. Liveweave uses account and project-ownership checks to restrict access to projects marked private. No online access control can be guaranteed to be perfect, so private projects should not be used as a vault for passwords, credentials, regulated data, or highly sensitive information.

Anonymous projects. Projects may be created without an account. Liveweave may use a browser session to recognize the creator during that session. Losing the session or project URL may limit the ability to manage an anonymous project.

User-executed code. Code in a project runs in the browser and may load third-party libraries, images, fonts, APIs, or other resources selected by the project author. Those third parties may receive technical information such as the visitor’s IP address and browser details under their own privacy terms. Liveweave does not control a project author’s third-party code.

5. AI Assistant

The AI Assistant is optional. When you use it, Liveweave sends the prompt, limited recent conversation context, and—when needed to perform a requested code change—relevant HTML, CSS, or JavaScript editor content to Cloudflare’s AI infrastructure for processing. The response is returned to Liveweave for display or application in the editors.

Liveweave also processes AI request counts, token usage, login status, and an account- or IP-based identifier to provide quotas, rate limiting, security, and abuse prevention. Recent conversation state may be stored in your browser so that a conversation can continue across a refresh or login.

Do not submit personal, confidential, proprietary, or regulated information to the AI Assistant. AI responses can be inaccurate or insecure; review generated code before using or publishing it. Cloudflare’s handling of submitted data is also governed by its applicable service terms and privacy commitments.

6. Cookies and browser storage

Liveweave uses cookies and similar browser storage that are necessary or useful for login sessions, security, AI authentication, anonymous project ownership, interface settings, draft code, editor layout, theme, console state, and continuity of an AI conversation.

Liveweave also uses Google Analytics to understand visits and feature usage, and Google reCAPTCHA on the contact form to reduce automated abuse. These technologies may set or read identifiers and collect device, browser, approximate location derived from IP address, interaction, and security information. Google’s processing is governed by its applicable privacy terms. Browser controls may let you block or delete cookies and local storage, but doing so can prevent login, security checks, saved preferences, drafts, anonymous project management, or other features from working correctly.

7. When information is shared

We do not sell personal information for money. We may disclose information in the following circumstances:

  • At your direction or publicly: when you publish or share a project or otherwise ask us to make information available.
  • Service providers: to providers that support hosting, content delivery, security, spam prevention, analytics, email delivery, database operations, and AI inference. Current relevant providers include Cloudflare and Google services such as Google Analytics and reCAPTCHA.
  • Legal and safety reasons: when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, enforce applicable terms, investigate abuse or security incidents, or protect rights, safety, and property.
  • Business changes: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice requirements.

Providers receive information only for the relevant operational purpose and handle it under their own agreements and legal obligations. Some analytics or advertising-related disclosures can be classified as a “sale” or “sharing” under certain privacy laws even when no money changes hands. Where such laws apply to Liveweave, we will provide the choices and notices they require.

8. Data retention and deletion

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including providing the Service, maintaining security and backups, resolving disputes, preventing abuse, and meeting legal obligations.

  • Account and profile information is generally kept while the account remains active.
  • Saved projects are generally kept until they are deleted by an authorized user or removed as part of account deletion, enforcement, maintenance, or legal compliance.
  • Browser drafts, settings, and conversation state remain on the device until they expire or are cleared by the browser, the user, or Liveweave code.
  • Security, analytics, AI-quota, server-log, backup, and support records may be kept for different periods based on operational and legal needs.

Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove information from backups, logs, cached copies, or copies previously made public or obtained by others. Residual copies are isolated or expire through normal retention cycles where practicable.

9. Security

Liveweave uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information, including password hashing, authenticated ownership checks, restricted private-project access, secure-cookie attributes where supported, request limits, and transport encryption in production.

However, no website, transmission, database, or storage system is completely secure. Liveweave cannot guarantee absolute security. Users should use a unique password, protect project URLs and account access, review third-party code before running it, and avoid storing secrets or sensitive information in the Service.

10. Children and educational use

Liveweave is a general-purpose coding tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without authorization required by applicable law.

If you are under the minimum age at which you may consent to online services in your location, use Liveweave only with the involvement and permission of a parent, legal guardian, school, or educator authorized to provide that permission. Schools and educators are responsible for evaluating Liveweave for their learners, providing required notices, obtaining required consent, and limiting the information students submit.

If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate authorization, email support@liveweave.com. We will review the request and take appropriate action, which may include deleting the information or account.

11. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; or appeal a response. You may also have the right to opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling where those activities and laws apply.

You can update some profile information and delete individual projects through your account tools. To request account deletion or exercise another privacy right, email support@liveweave.com from the address associated with your account and describe the request. We may need to verify identity or authority before acting. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law, subject to verification.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. You may also complain to the privacy or data-protection authority in your jurisdiction.

California notice: California residents may have additional rights under applicable California privacy law. Liveweave does not sell personal information for money. If Liveweave becomes subject to an opt-out obligation for analytics or another practice considered “sharing,” it will honor the legally required opt-out mechanism.

12. International use

Liveweave is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from another country, information may be processed in the United States and other locations where service providers operate. Those locations may have data-protection laws different from the laws where you live. Where required, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Liveweave, its providers, or applicable requirements change. The effective date at the top identifies the latest version. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice through the Service or another reasonable method.
